Buenos Aires: Latin America’s Paris

For the Easter long weekend, my two girl friends and I went to to Buenos Aires, Argentina.  Before the trip, I heard from numerous people how wonderful the shopping, the food, the men, the architecture, the accent, and the culture was in the country on the other side of the Andes.  I couldn’t imagine how different it could be from Santiago, and pictured in my head a city that was like, well, a really big Patronato … how incredibly wrong was I.

The architecture has a classic look, with the feel of Old Montreal in Quebec, Canada.  The biftec, wine, and cheese melts in your mouth.  The tango (with singer, orchestra, and dancers) performed with such intense romantic devotion gave me new appreciation to this dance/music.   And the MANY designer boutiques selling quality clothes, shoes, and bags (especially leather products) were at very affordable prices = every girl’s dream.   The people are of Italian descent and carry with them a relaxed and friendly air.  The three of us walked into a hair salon and decided to change our look.  My new haircut&fringe, highlight/dye, style = $30 USD.  And there’s no better way than to end a day of shopping than with a glass of red wine and tapas in one of their many bohemian cafés and beautiful bookstores.

In short: Buenos Aires is no Santiago.  And it’s a city that I’ve love to go to again.
